Fondly known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Alleppey is a well-known tourist destination in Kerala. The Vembanad Lake stretches from Alleppey to Kochi, and is 84km long. Kayamkulam Lake covers just under 60 sq.km, and connects Ashtamudi lake by the Chavara Panmana canal. Alleppey is crisscrossed by hundreds of small and big canals. It is used for passenger navigation and commercial purposes.
