Backwater Tour Cochin
A backwater tour in Kochi’s lagoons takes you right to the heart of the villages. You get to see how the natives live near the water, live their daily lives and how to enjoy nature without intrusion. Animals and birds go by, people on boats glide past you in the canals.
It’s a unique opportunity to appreciate beautiful locales of the district. The Kettuvallams are traditional rice boats that have been converted to carry tourists across the Vembanad Lake. The crew is warm and friendly, they serve traditional Kerala lunch and snacks on board. You can also choose smaller open canoes for a better view.
The trip organised by government tourism agency starts at 8 15am and goes on till 5 30pm, and involves visits to handicraft and coir making units. You can see how mats are woven, spices and herbs are packed for export, coir ropes are spun and toddy is tapped in villages. The boats leave the Tourist Reception Centre, KTDC Ltd, Ernakulam. There are also half day backwater cruises.
